Mississauga Polish Day has submitted an application to Canada Summer Jobs for two students, who will support our committee members and work groups to organise our community event. Employment will commence on April 23, 2018 (or shortly thereafter) and is 10 weeks in duration. These are full time positions (40 hours per week) for $14.00 per hour. Students will work during regular business hours, but time shifting may be required occasionally. We anticipate receiving notification regarding approval from the government in March.

The successful applicants will need to provide proof of being registered as full time student in the 2018/2019 academic year.  Post-secondary school students are preferred.

Applicants will have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and a working knowledge of the Polish language, as well as excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work independently.

Position #1 – Site Planning and Promotion Assistant

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Computer literacy – excellent knowledge of Microsoft software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe
  • Ability to orient and supervise volunteers during the event
  • Driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Pick-up and delivery/distribution of promotional materials (posters, flyers) within Peel Region
  • Canvas Polish Canadian and other businesses regarding display of our poster/flyers
  • Assist site planning lead with preparation of site, including decorations, preparing documentation required by Celebration Square authorities, draft communications to vendors, etc.
  • Assist in the set-up of the event
  • Orient and supervise volunteers, schedule their assignments, develop a back-up plan
  • Other relevant tasks as required by Polish Day committee members
  • Work collaboratively with the other student (share responsibilities, provide back-up)

Position #2 – Website & Social Media Management Assistant, Administrative Support

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of WordPress, basic HTML, web design, marketing (is an asset)
  • Ability to orient, assign, schedule and supervise volunteers
  • Driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist the webmaster and social media leads with preparing and posting content
  • Manage (log) sponsor and vendor applications, draft communications, send thank-you letters, etc.
  • Research on internet potential attractions (ex. buskers, magicians, clowns), obtain quotes, etc.
  • Design and order plaques, thank-you certificates
  • Provide administrative support to work groups as required
  • Other relevant tasks as required
  • Work collaboratively with the other student (share responsibilities, provide back-up)
